Animal-Assisted Therapy
Canine-Assisted Therapy Equine-Assisted Therapy In Loving Gratitude of Tangus and Tumbra
The human-animal bond is an ancient one. Animals are our helpers, guides and teachers. Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a non-verbal treatment modality. It is designed to improve the physical, social, emotional, spiritual and cognitive functioning of each client as well as enhance their ability to learn and feel motivated.
Engaging with animals helps foster our relationships with each other and a deeper understanding within. Animals calm us and foster confidence thereby increasing our self-esteem. In other words, animals help us cope better with daily life and be better humans. Animal-Assisted Therapy is good for people of all ages and developmental stages.
Just about everyone can benefit from this form of therapy, including people with Alzheimers, Autism and Aspergers Syndrome. The psychological benefits of Animal-Assisted Therapy include:
Interaction with, and the presence of animal companions creates awareness of our inter-species connections and is healing. Research demonstrates how imperative the bonds between species are. Our beloved animal companions educate us and help us to find ways to improve overall the care of all animals, including ourselves, and by doing so facilitate our individual healing, and that of our world, thus helping to create a sacred balance (means well-being).
